Mike Crawford - Vocals and Guitar

mike@buildermusic(dot)com

Mike Crawford is the singer and guitarist for Builder. He started writing songs while in college and is only recently getting to a place where he feels like he knows what he's doing with all that. Rhythm guitar is his thing with Builder although every once in a while he'll whip out a tasty lead on you. Cro-Magnon-boneheaded rock is where he is heading with his rhythmic playing. He wishes he was a drummer. He loves distortion. He feels like he's in 8th grade when he gets to turn it up.

He was in the KISS Army by 5th grade and Back in Black was a favorite record as a small child. Although Devo’s first record Q: Are We Not Men/A: We Are Devo! made a huge impression on his little brain. The herky-jerky sounds - the beginnings of wishing he was David Byrne in the Once in a Lifetime video.

His grandfather was in a western swing band in the late 1930's with all his brothers (The Tice Brother's Band) and so Mike comes from a long lineage of musicians. By 5th grade he knew he wanted to play guitar in a rock band and by 8th grade played his Valentine's social with his band SAVAGE. Shortly thereafter he was granted his first girlfriend - there was no looking back. Mike met his wife by playing in a band. Let this be a lesson for all you scrawny white boys out there.

Mike plays a Telecaster and a 1972 Les Paul Standard. He wishes he got to play thru all the cool effects Isaac does, but is playing thru a Pod Pro currently. He says to you, “hey! If it’s good enough for U2 and Weezer, it’s good enough for me.” No matter what he says, we still think he wishes he had a nice tube amp and cool pedals like Isaac… to this he says wistfully “someday…”
